The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) is the leading voice fighting to ensure that Americans have access to beneficial over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices they can count on to be reliable, save money and time, and deliver new and better ways to get and stay healthy.

A Message from the CHPA Chairman and President & CEO
Paul Gama & Scott Melville
In these most extraordinary times, the critical importance of our industry to public health and wellness has never been more apparent. This year, as COVID-19 shuttered all aspects of normal life, millions of people around the world relied on over-the-counter medications, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices to manage their health safely from home. Indeed, it was responsible self-care that helped ease the tremendous burden placed on our healthcare system during this global pandemic and helped to keep people healthy, safe, and well.
Despite the vast challenges presented by COVID-19, CHPA moved full-speed ahead with historic achievements in 2020. Your association worked seamlessly and tirelessly to implement an ambitious agenda and advance many of our industry’s top priorities, including the long-sought enactment of OTC Monograph reform and restoration of OTC eligibility under FSA/HSA accounts. We added consumer medical devices to the association’s scope, which now, along with OTC medicines and dietary supplements, represents a more holistic approach to self-care and better reflects how consumers and retailers increasingly view personal healthcare.
To coordinate its broader initiatives, CHPA created and launched a new organizational structure with dedicated strategic councils focusing on OTCs, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices. Furthermore, the association expanded its capabilities in the dietary supplements category, adding a new, cross-functional leader with extensive industry experience to steer this effort.
We also felt it was time to update the story of who we are, what we do, and why it matters. To that end, CHPA unveiled a new CHPA logo, brand identity, and tagline: “Taking healthcare personally.” We’re proud of our bold, modern identity and all that it represents: an industry – your industry – focused on health, wellness, and consumer empowerment.
Importantly, too, this year CHPA and its member companies united around a focused commitment to diversity and inclusion. To address racial injustice and promote equality and opportunity, we established a board-level CHPA Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiative. Already well-underway, this initiative is working to identify tangible steps that CHPA and its member companies can take, individually and collectively, to help promote a more inclusive industry and to support broader efforts in this area for all Americans.
After a year like no other, we are humbled by the tremendous efforts of our industry members to help Americans get well and stay healthy during this historic global pandemic. Collectively, we are stronger than ever; the progress we made over the course of last year alone has paved the way for a future of growth and opportunity for personal healthcare. CHPA is honored to serve alongside you, particularly now, amidst such trying times, and we look forward to brighter days ahead and to working together to realize our vision of happier, healthier lives through responsible self-care.
